Cold Brew Coffee Made Simple: A Step-by-Step Guide

Want to know how to brew the BEST cold brew? We get this question all the time, so we figured we'd add it to our site for easy access!

Please note that this is just how WE do it. You can change it up or Google different ways to do it. But if you've tasted our smooth brew at a market or event, this is exactly how we did it!

Ingredients Needed:

Equipment Needed:

  • Large container (2.5+ gallon capacity)
  • Cold brew organic filters (or some type of fine mesh strainer)
  • Stirring Utensil
  • Refrigerator or cool, dark place (keep in mind you'll need room for your large gallon container in the fridge, if you want true cold brew)

Directions:

  1. Grind Coffee - use a coarse grind, similar to the size of kosher salt (and enjoy the smell!).
  2. Prepare the steep - Add ground coffee to filter bag. Put filter bag into water just enough that all the grounds are covered, but be cautious that the grinds don't come out of the bag while steeping.
    1. Note: you can add the grounds straight to the water and then strain them out when it's done steeping, if you don't have coffee filter bags.
  3. Steep
    1. 12-14 hours at room temperature.
    2. 16-18 hours in the fridge.
    3. We do 18 hours in the fridge, as Roaster Corey feels that gives our cold brew its best flavor.
  4. Strain -
    1. Take the coffee filter bag out of the cold brew. Coffee filter bags can be rinsed and used again.
    2. If you put the grounds directly into the water, now is where you strain the coffee using a fine mesh filter.
    3. Repeat if needed for clarity.
  5. Store - Refrigerate for up to two weeks.

**Keep in mind that Rad Rooster sells 12 oz bags. Time to break out the math that you swore you'd never need!
